20 Minute Meals - Jamie OliverDeveloper: Zolmo
Price: $6.99 Download on the App Store
If you haven’t witnessed renown British chef Jamie Oliver in action, you’re missing out on an incredible personality with a passion for healthy food. If you love him in The Food Revolution, you’ll love him on your iPhone as he demonstrates some of his recipes designed to be made in 20 minutes or less.
20 Minute Meals by Jamie Oliver provides a handful of recipes in a variety of categories with simple step by step directions, pictures, and ingredient lists that can be instantly added to an in-app shopping list. Choose from soup, pasta, fish and stir-fry dishes or select vegetarian meals, desserts, or curries.
Each recipe is depicted with pictures and contains related videos with tips from Oliver, such as preparing garlic and the principles of superb salads. In addition to the collection of recipes, you get a kitchen essentials list of ingredients and equipment that every kitchen should have along with additional related videos, such as how to care for knives or learning to use a pestle and mortar.
The two things that stand out in 20 Minute Meals – Jamie Oliver are the collection of videos and pictures, which are extremely helpful for visual learners, and the fact that these recipes are designed to be made in 20 minutes or less. If 20-minute meal suggestions with step-by-step pictorials doesn’t help you revolutionize the way you approach cooking, little else will. After all, if you can see what you should be doing or what something should look like, your chances of success are greatly improved. The ability to create a shopping list from within the app based on meals you want to try is an added and appreciated convenience as well.
Granted, people who detest cooking and thus seek out quick-prep meals will probably not appreciate the value of the information or the recipes included in 20 Minute Meals. The included recipes do not support the consumption of processed foods and are based on preparing meals from fresh ingredients. This does not mean that beginners can’t benefit from the information included or that the recipes are too complicated to try, but learning to prepare fresh dishes quickly and efficiently takes practice.
Overall 20 Minute Meals – Jamie Oliver is well designed, handsome, and thoroughly detailed. The information included in the video clips is valuable and the pictorial descriptions of the preparation steps are superb and clearly took some time to orchestrate. The only downside is too few recipes at present – though with 55 there are plenty to get you started. Due to each recipe being accompanied by pictures of each step, additional recipe updates may take some time, but if updates are supported as planned, 20 Minute Meals is a good value.
If you like to cook, or like the idea of learning to cook, freshly prepared meals that don’t take all day, then 20 Minute Meals – Jamie Oliver is a solid resource. Like a mini electronic cookbook designed for visual learners, it’s a scrumptious deal available at an introductory discount price through May 3. I highly recommend the Banoffee banana split…

I loved this app, it’s not something I would normally spend on, but my friend is a big Jamie Oliver fan. We cooked two meals using it, and it was really helpful…very information dense and easy to navigate while you cooked. I haven’t tried any other cooking apps so it’s hard to compare, but this was a great first impression.
