If sending traditional candy hearts and embossed greeting cards to your special someone is not your style, then check out this Valentine’s Day app. An App to Tell is a new iPhone app that lets you tell someone how you feel about them by creating an app just for them that expresses your sentiments in text, audio, a picture, or all three. The concept is similar to creating an electronic greeting card, except other iPhone and iPod Touch users will receive your sentiments in the form of an app that they can download.
An App to Tell is pretty simplistic. Step one is to create text (pretty self-explanatory). Step two: record an audio message. Lastly, take a picture or use one from your camera roll to complete your Valentine.
Your entire text-audio-picture message is stored on a server where anyone with an email address can retrieve it. Friends or Lovers without an iPhone or iPod Touch can use their computer to view your message via the app simulator provided on the site. Just like standard electronic greetings, recipients are provided an email containing a link to retrieve the message. Pretty standard stuff, but the most unique aspect of App to Tell comes into play for recipients with iPhones.
If your recipient is an iPhone or iPod Touch user, they simply follow the appropriate link in the email notification, which will prompt them to download the “your app” from An App to Tell. It’s a free download and once it is installed, they only need to enter their email address and the site-generated password provided to them in the email. Then they are able to view your message, including the picture and audio, anytime, anywhere, right on their device. And they can keep this reminder of you on their home screen forever – or not, as the case may be.
As simplistic as An App to Tell is, there are at least a few nice touches incorporated, such as previewing a picture before saving it. This is recommended since the app automatically uses a photo effect that softens the edges of the frame, which means the edges of the original photo can’t be seen. There is no way to reposition the photo within the frame, but it can be rotated. The audio recording comes out pretty clear and there is no time limit, so speak your heart, sing a song, say whatever comes to mind; it won’t cut you off.
With An App to Tell, you can create the most personalized Valentine you’ve ever sent. Create and send as many as you like with no worries about how the recipients will retrieve them. Granted, if you’re a man, you need to know that while your better half may appreciate the ability to see you, hear you and read your heartfelt expressions of undying love anytime, this in no way is an excuse to not send chocolate. Kiss and tell? Bad idea. But An App to Tell is a quick, simple, sweet way to wish someone special a Happy Valentine’s Day.
