The creators of the award-winning "Art Authority" app line today announced a broad partnership with world-renown Bridgeman Art Library and printing experts The Image Collective, furthering their mission of making classic art more available in more ways. The initial result of the partnership, expected this summer, will be advanced, high-quality print-on-demand capabilities for select works from directly within the app, as well as through a co-branded Web site. Longer term, the partnership plans to provide Art Authority users with printable access to over 200,000 images from Bridgeman's collection.
Art Authority and London, UK-based Bridgeman Art Library are joining with The Image Collective (TIC) to implement the highest quality print-on-demand available. Users of the Art Authority iPad app will be able to view retina-display quality images from Bridgeman's library and seamlessly order framed or unframed copies of those works. Similar functionality will also be available through the Web site. Works will be printed at TIC and shipped directly to customers. The service will initially be available in the U.S. and Canada.
Not only does the partnership provide Art Authority users with the ability to own physical, large-scale reproductions of works they view through the app, but it also over time will significantly increase their access to great works of art, both in terms of quality and quantity.
"We feel honored to have been selected by Bridgeman to spearhead their U.S. print-on-demand services," said Alan Oppenheimer, president of Art Authority co-developer Open Door Networks. "The combination of Bridgeman's library, our app, and TIC's printing expertise creates the most comprehensive access to classic art anywhere."
"We are very pleased to be working with Art Authority as one of our print on demand partners. Making our unique range of world famous art imagery available through the Art Authority platform furthers Bridgeman's aim to bring museum quality art to worldwide audiences whilst driving revenue back to the museums and collections we are so proud to represent" said Victoria Bridgeman, CEO of the Bridgeman Art Library.
Art Authority for iPad is the only iPad Reference app to be named to the Rewind 2011 and Rewind 2010 "best of" lists from Apple. It brings over 50,000 high-resolution classic works of art to users' fingertips. Hailed as "an experience unlike any other" and "visually dazzling," the app stunningly displays paintings and sculptures by over 1000 major western artists from ancient times through current-day. Art Authority for Macintosh, iPhone, and Kindle Fire bring similar functionality to these devices.
Founded in 1972, the Bridgeman Art Library works with museums, art galleries and artists to make the best art available for reproduction. The result is an outstanding archive of images drawn from collections throughout the world, all of which are available for licensing. Every subject, concept, style and medium is represented, from the masterpieces of national museums to the hidden treasures of private collections. Fine art is just one of the sources of images; design, antiques, maps, architecture, photography, textiles, glass, ceramics and many other categories feature in the collection.
The Image Collective (TIC) provides high quality services to museums, libraries, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions worldwide. Specializing in print-on-demand services, TIC leverages a legacy of pioneering print development and deep connections to the fine art community into programs that can generate significant revenue for the institutions with which they partner.
