Juicy Bits today announced that their new Halftone 2 comic book creation app for iPad, an Apple Editors' Choice, has abandoned the freemium business model based on overwhelming customer feedback. The in-app store has been removed, and all features are now enabled with a single up-front purchase.
"When we launched Halftone 2, we wanted to give customers the ability to try the product at no cost and to only purchase the features that they needed," says Mike Swanson, Founder of Juicy Bits. "However, we received overwhelming feedback that customers would rather pay up-front for all of the features than to buy them one-by-one. We also heard from educators that in-app purchases cannot be purchased via the Apple Volume Purchasing Program (VPP), so this change will now allow schools to use Halftone 2 in the classroom."
Halftone 2 makes it easy to create professional-quality, multi-page comic books by assembling photos from a user's photo album, Facebook, Flickr, or Instagram. Users can then add speech and thought balloons, styled captions, some WHAMS, BAMS, and POWS, and share their creations with the world.
The update includes an improved 3D feature that produces comic books that can be viewed with readily-available red and cyan 3D glasses. Additionally, the update adds a series of short tutorial videos, a sample project, and numerous performance improvements and bug fixes.
Halftone 2 (v1.0.2) is $3.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Photo & Video category.
