De Agostini, one of Europe's largest publishers of educational and entertainment publications, makes its U.S. debut with the release of their critically acclaimed educational app, How My Body Works on iOS. Previously featured as the iPad App of the Week in Italy, How My Body Works uses 3D male and female models to guide readers on an interactive adventure through the human body. Parents and children can now explore the body's systems and organs in a fun and engaging journey right from their iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
How My Body Works is based on De Agostini Publishing's flagship "edutainment" partwork, an encyclopedic series of magazines accompanied by educational materials, which has entertained users for over 30 years. The app allows readers to discover the human body by combining fun, learning, and scientific content in an engaging experience for all ages. Choosing one of two guides, users explore the body's levels, including skin, muscles, and bones, while touring the various organs and systems. A rich collection of pictures, videos, and games featuring drawings by the master artist Albert Barille translates the excitement and suspense of the original partwork for a new generation of digital users.
The first edition of How My Body Works was launched on the Italian market in March 1989 and contained 45 booklets with more than 3000 color illustrations and 13 videocassettes. Its international distribution began in 1998 and, over the course of 14 years, it has since been published in 16 countries and 14 languages for a total of over 60 million copies sold around the world.
"The U.S. debut of How My Body Works is an exciting and proud moment for everyone at De Agostini," said Vincent Murray, Managing Director of De Agostini UK. "We always strive to create value through quality products and services. How My Body Works is a great combination of entertainment, education, and innovation. As our first foray into the U.S. market, we feel that this title is the perfect introduction for our internationally respected brand. We hope that our app exceeds the expectations of its users and opens a world of De Agostini products to a new audience."
"With the arrival in the U.S. of the digital version of How My Body Works we further accelerate the evolution of our content in all the international markets that De Agostini oversees as a leader with its wide content platform," adds Alessandro Belloni, CEO of De Agostini Publishing. "With this app, De Agostini officially enters the realm of edutainment applications designed specifically for a younger audience, and thanks to the work we are carrying out at our creative centers in Novara, Tokyo, and London, our publishing house will bring all its know-how to mobile devices."
