Even with professional equipment a lighting strike is hard to capture. As opposed to a DSLR (Digital single-lens reflex camera) this app works completely hands-free during day and night even for small strikes or flashes. Just point your iPhone towards the part of the sky/thunderstorm where you expect lightning to strike, then start 'iLightningCam' and wait. The app will automatically capture lightning if it happens in your view. In addition, it offers the first ever ISO control for iPhone, which is the only way to capture lightning during night without overexposure. It also offers full photo resolution without any tricks or interpolation.

Version 6 offers an assistant, who guides you to the perfect camera settings within 30 seconds, even if you are completely new to photography. After 2 years of development the developers have found a cure against the rolling shutter artifacts of the iPhones camera hardware that might appear in some of the pictures of fast oscillating lightning strikes during night. The developers call it the SLOW mode, which offers an extreme fast lightning recognition paired with a slow exposure time.

Version 6 offers the following new features:
* Lightband artefact reduction for PhotoMode
* Doubleshot in PhotoMode (only 100-200 ms interval, depending on the device)
* Much faster and improved ISO control (iOS 6 required)
* Improved NightMode settings
* Support for Landscape left and right (changeable in options)
* Bug fixes for iOS versions prior to 6.0
* New instructions, in English, 'in Deutsch' et 'en Francais!'

For people, who still hesitate to believe that it is possible to capture lightning with a cell phone with high quality, Florian Stiassny offers a growing gallery of original lightning images taken using 'iLightningCam' at his website. In addition, the app offers a detailed illustrated manual, which explains the background of lightning of photography with an iPhone . The manual is now available in English, German and in French.

A warning from the developer: Thunderstorms are obviously dangerous and life threatening for everyone and not healthy for iPhones either. Take care using this app! Do not take any risks and avoid exposure to thunderstorms. Use this App only in lightning and in storm protected locations. You are solely responsible for your actions and any adverse consequences. There is a full safety warning included in the instructions page.

iLightningCam 6.0 is $1.99 (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Photo & Video category.
