Foucault pendulums, a popular display item in science museums and universities, is now available in an app form from Modebiz.com, an app developer that specializes in web rich interactive applications. Released recently as an update of the already-popular and actively downloaded Pendulum Painting app, the Foucault pendulum's USP is the elegant, smooth path it traces while creating stunningly beautiful geometric patterns and images. It also has improved fading effects.
"The path in this app is always crossing the center of the plane, because it's caused by the Earth's rotation. This is what makes Pendulum Painting's designs unique, enchanting and elegant. It is different from similar patterns created by a human driven pendulum," says the technical spokesperson at Modebiz.com, when quizzed about the special features of the app.
The Foucault pendulum stands out from the others because of this very reason, according to the app developer. In a real Foucault pendulum, the swing is observed to rotate 360 degrees clockwise in about 32 hours. In the app, the swing rate gets accelerated several times so users need not wait for long hours to observe and draw.
Modebiz believes that the app is going to be liked by the youth and other app lovers with a creative bend of mind because the patterns it creates can be truly mind-blowing.
The Pendulum Painting app simulates a live pendulum device with an inking pendant. The pendant's movements can be tracked and marked that allow the users to capture the naturally created beautiful patterns on canvas. Users can actually witness the entire process of how this app unfurls beautiful, creative patterns with its simple, elegant movements.
Users can easily fine tune the length of the rope, the speed of rotation of the pendulum, and the release level of the pendant to create interesting designs. There are convenient 'stop' and 'clear' buttons provided to control the timing effortlessly and to create multiple patterns.
When an interesting and attractive pattern is achieved, users simply have to tap the stop button on the app, drag the pendant to a new position or change the length of the rope, and then release it to start a new round on the existing pattern.
Tapping the clear button will clear the canvas, according to the developers, but the inking of the next movement will continue uninterrupted.
Pendulum Painting Version 1.1 is priced at $1.99 and available worldwide exclusively through iTunes in the Lifestyle category in English, simplified Chinese, and traditional Chinese languages.
