Atlantia Software today unveiled SimpleMic for iOS, a gesture-based audio recorder that is optimized for quick sound capture. Featuring an elegant user-interface, subtle sound effects and vibrations, and a beautiful fullscreen level meter, it offers a fun and immersive experience for anyone that needs to record audio in a pinch. Three distinct recording modes are included, each designed to help automatically start a session at just the right time so that unwanted gaps and noise can be minimized.
A multitude of upload and sharing options are also present, allowing users to upload or open in Dropbox, SoundCloud, Google Drive, Evernote and more, as well as automatically have recordings synced to their Mac's iTunes library via the SimpleMic Sync helper app. Geo-tagging, audio metadata editing, and multiple color themes round out this unique take on an app category that has been around since the early days of the App Store.
"Music is one of my passions in life and I often like to capture myself playing new song or melodic ideas at the spur of the moment" said Nick Bonatsakis, the 29-year old sole proprietor of Atlantia Software. "I found myself getting frustrated with existing audio recorder apps, mostly due to the difficulties associated with tapping tiny "record" buttons and the confusion that would tend to arise around whether or not the device was actually recording at any given time. So with that, I decided to try and rethink how an app like this should work, focusing primarily on making it as easy as possible to get in and start recording."
"Gesture driven controls seemed like a natural fit and it allowed me to free up the entire screen, in turn enabling me to create a really cool glowing level meter that occupies the entire space." added Mr. Bonatsakis. "With subtle sounds and vibration added to the mix, the whole thing adds up to an experience that makes it genuinely fun to use." Finally, when asked about the reasoning behind the extensive sharing functionality he replied, "Some audio recorders try to do everything from recording to complex editing on this tiny screen and it makes them overwhelming. I'd rather this app do one thing extremely well and allow users to move the resulting content to the location of their choice, whether that be a cloud storage service, another iOS app, or even their desktop Mac".
SimpleMic 1.0 is $1.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Utilities category. You can also find the SimpleMic Sync helper app for free on the Mac App Store.
