Sunflowers are happy-making flowers! Their big, bright yellow heads all face the same direction to form a blanket of sunny faces. They follow the sun from dawn to dusk. Heliotropic by nature, they turn to the light and warmth for growth.
Appreciative Inquiry has a lot in common with sunflowers. Just as sunflowers turn to the sun for light and energy, so too, do we humans grow and light up with great vitality in a field of abundant, sunny appreciation and positivity. We literally light up when basked with appreciation.
This app is an introduction to Appreciative Inquiry - AI for short. It provides a tiny taste of what AI is and how AI works. Woven throughout the app are real life stories demonstrating the application of AI and the five core principles that underpin it.
Appreciative Inquiry - an Introduction was created at the request of users since the author's first app, "Embracing Change", the first Appreciative Inquiry app, released early 2011, was available only on iPad. "Will you also do a version for the iPhone?" was the request. Here it is, and it's quite different.
Appreciative Inquiry - AI - is a perspective on the world that invites us to see ourselves and the world through an appreciative or valuing eye. This app, through imagery and stories, curated content and interactive models, illustrates the principles and practice of this world acclaimed developmental change process.
The app invites users to practice looking at the world from the appreciative mindset by using some of the simple tools in the app: use the iPhone's camera to practice the appreciative eye, audio record their own spontaneous insights or thoughtful conversations; and document ideas and inspirations on the notepad feature.
App creator, Robyn Stratton-Berkessel has in addition to her Embracing Change iPad app published "Appreciative Inquiry for Collaborative Solutions: 21 Strength-based Workshops" -2010- Pfeiffer, San Fransisco. Her goal is provide tools to make it easier for people to "do it for themselves."
"What's important to me is to catalyze the power of participation, engagement and collaboration and incorporate these principles into app design. I love technologies that facilitate our global connection and make our interconnectedness palpable. Being part of the mobile world is very exciting to me and sparks creativity at many levels across all disciplines."
