App Sales and Giveaways: Devs Get Together to Promote Apps, Make Some Noise

wonder-word-games-iphone-promotionAlmost from the ribbon-cutting ceremony, it’s been tough for developers to grab the attention of App Store shoppers. Maybe it’s coincidence, or the start of a trend, but two groups of devs announced this week they are collaborating on their own versions of a department store, blue-light special in hopes of generating attention, and obviously, more dough.

Six indie iPhone word game devs are jointly marketing Wonderful Word Games Week, which runs  May 22 to May 31. During the promotion, their word games will be $0.99 apiece.

Participating in the joint promo are Blue Ox (Moxie), Cerebral Gardens (Wordology), Imangi Studios (Imangi, Imangi Word Squares), Nimblebit (Textropolis), Semi Secret Software (Wurdle)  and Syed Jafri (Stitch’Em Words).

Check out AppCraver for reviews of Imangi Word Squares, Textropolis, Wurdle and Stitch’Em Words.

“The iTunes App Store is a notoriously difficult place for small game developers that have one-person or two-person shops to get noticed,” says Moxie dev Christopher York. “With over 25,000 available Apps and no easy way for iPhone users to sort through them, many great games get overlooked unless they come from the large development houses that can afford expensive marketing campaigns."

Visuamobile, developer of Earth Secrets and three other apps, is the catalyst behind iPhoneSpree, an app giveaway that will run until June 3.

Indie devs participating in the promotion include Audiorealism (Technobox), Avatron, (Air Sharing),  Eric Metois, (iChalky), FORMation Alliance (PRESS CHECK), Illusion Labs (Touchgrind) Intua (BeatMaker) and ZoozMobile (ZoozBeat). For the complete list of developers go to iPhoneSpree.

Check out AppCraver for reviews of Air Sharing Pro, iChalky, Touchgring, BeatMaker and ZoozBeat.

The alliance will pass out free app bundles--350 apps in all, worth $1,000--to about 80 winners, Visuamobile says. The bundles will range from 2 to 18 apps.

To participate,  go the iPhoneSpree or follow the iPhonefree giveaway on Twitter and retweet @iPhoneSpree.
