Cronk combines elements of bubble pop shooters, match-three puzzles and Centipede-like arcade action. There's a little something for everyone and I'm sure quite a few people will like playing it.
The object of Cronk, from Cronk Games, is to hurl smooth or rough (your choice) boulders as they wind along a rutted path like a train and eliminate them all before they reach the bottom of the screen. When Cronk, who is a cave man, matches the colors of three boulders they will explode.
Among the boulders are a variety of power ups that put the train in reverse, add bonus points, explodes boulders nearby and pauses the train.
Cronk has Easy, Medium and Hard modes. You can play endlessly (or until you lose) or against the clock.
It must be difficult for developers to come up with new twists on the classic match-three genre, but Cronk Games succeeds at doing that by bringing in strategy, shooting and other elements often found in popular games.
I happen to like bubble pop kinds of games, but I have a "seen one, seen them all" attitude toward match-three games. Yet, I found Cronk engaging. The graphics are better than average and the soundtrack and sound effects are satisfying.
Of the three modes in Cronk, Easy, isn't worth playing because it's just too easy. Medium is not much more difficult, so I quickly went to the Hard level, which is challenging and far more engaging.
What's a bit quirky about Cronk is that you can hurl boulders through objects such as bushes and a bridge.
Cronk is priced at $4.99, which is high compared to the polished quality of other games in the same price category, but the developer has lowered the price to 2.99 for a limited time so hurry!
