Epic Pet Wars Are The Cutest Wars Ever
Generally, when I'm assigned an application to review, I head to the App Store, download it, and check it out. When it comes to Epic Pet Wars by Miraphonic, however, it just so happened that I'd already downloaded it and even considered suggesting that I review it. So when I got the assignment in my inbox, I may or may not have said "Ha! Yes!" out loud.
The point is, basically, that Epic Pet Wars is pretty fun and awfully cute. It works in what I think is a manner similar to a lot of online role-playing games: You create your character (your pet), choosing from an assortment of creatures, and then build your pet up through training exercises and battling other users' pets. There are all sorts of items to buy, ranging from weapons and armor to candies and potions and even frosted cupcakes. You can also buy stock options to help increase your income regularly!
The battles in Epic Pet Wars, in my experience, are quite easy in most cases. You choose an opponent and are given the option to attack, use an item or run away. I don't know if I happened to get a super pet or what, but I've fought over 65 battles and only lost two, and those were a very near thing.
Epic Pet Wars also has training exercises that you can choose to participate in, in order to earn money and experience points which help your pet to level up. Some exercises require that you own a particular weapon or piece of armor, so don't be too quick to sell off your old items when you upgrade.
Users can also have their pets join a posse, which is another requirement for some training exercises. My poor pet analogheart is posse-less at the moment so I'm not entirely sure what other benefits may be offered by joining a posse...someone befriend him, please!
One downside to Epic Pet Wars that I've found is that while the game itself is free, if you want to unlock all the available breeds, for instance, you have to buy Epic Pet Wars Expansion Packs. (It's possible that if you play long enough some of these items may unlock for free, but I've put in a fair bit of time on Epic Pet Wars and so far it doesn't seem to be happening.) That being said, I've had a terrific time playing the game without those extra add-ons, so if you don't want to pay, it's probably still worth the download.
Also, to balance that out, Epic Pet Wars gives out secret codes for special items fairly regularly through their website and through Twitter.
All things considered, Epic Pet Wars is absolutely worth checking out if you have any interest in online role-playing games.
