Videos and the iPad just go together. The display is just big enough that watching videos is pleasant and the new iPad retina display definitely makes them pop. One new app that is taking advantage of the iPad is EZ Tube. It is one of the easiest ways to browse YouTube videos on the iPad. In fact, it's so simple and useful that you may never open YouTube again.
At its core, EZ Tube is a dashboard of sorts that makes searching by certain criteria super quick and simple. For instance, you can search for videos based on the combination of feed type, period, country and category combinations. I took it for a spin and did a search for most popular, today, United States and in all categories. One of the first videos to pop up was a smashing opera duo of 17-year-old Jonathan and 16-year-old Charlotte singing together to convince "Britain's Got Talent" judges that they have what it takes to take the music world by storm. Let me tell you, it will send shivers down your spine. It's a must watch and thanks to EZ Tube, I watched it and you should too (video link).
Another great feature is the "Spin" button, which allows you to discover trending videos throughout many countries and categories. I took it for a test drive and it randomly picked trending, today, Italy and autos. I was treated to highlights from Ronde Del Grifo 2012 Show where a multitude of modified autos where taking hairpin turns with intense speed. If there is a certain selection of criteria that you find yourself searching for constantly then use the handy save function that will save your custom search for later use.
The layout of the app is fairly simple to use as well. You can click on the search tool to bring up the customizable criteria or click on EZ Feeds, which shows a few preselected fields already such as most viewed videos today, trending videos and most viewed entertainment videos today. You can also click on EZ Channels, which in this case was already setup to include the latest videos from "The Ellen Show," "TedTalks" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
It also has a built in social sharing function that allows you to send your favorites to Facebook, Twitter or to a friend via email. Overall, EZ Tube has one of the slickest YouTube video search interfaces I've used and I highly recommend downloading the app if you find yourself viewing a lot of videos on the iPad.
