School of Rock is a new interactive music app inspired by the 2003 movie of the same name. But unlike the recently reviewed Sex and the City app, this movie franchise delivers without any merchant store attached. Paramount Digital Entertainment used the movie's premise to create a very fun application, that is packed with tons of different tools and aspects.
The player can learn about the basics of music education, like note and chord recognition, melody, harmony, rhythm and tempo. At the same time School of Rock allows the user to play along to classic rock tunes or to their own music collection in iTunes. A student in the School of Rock goes through different lessons like guitar, bass, keyboard and drums and racks up points in each category in order to graduate. Trivia questions and quotes by famous rockers contribute points as well.
The price of $6.99 seems like a lot but School of Rock offers a ton of stuff and for anyone who does not know too much about rock music theory and wants to understand the basics, or anyone who just wants to play and jam around to some familiar tunes, this app will be great.
