Flick Bowling- FreeVerse Has Done it Again

Flick Bowling was developed by NY City based company called Freeverse. The makers of Flick Bowling have been developing great games since 1994, and is one of the leaders on the iPhone gaming platform. We loved “Wing Nuts“, saying at the time that it was arguably one of the best apps in the entire App Store. Since then, competition has increased and a number of big payers such as EA (Spore) have entered the market as well as some very innovative upstarts (Galcon comes to mind). Still, you can count on Freeverse to deliver absolutely state of the art products.

Flick Bowling, released yesterday, is no exception. The bowling format works extremely well on the iPhone, and while it wasn’t immediately apparent to us that you could improve on 300 Bowl (an app we reviewed here) — FreeVerse has done just that. I chose to play as “Mr Hiner” the high school geometry teacher who “hates gutter balls and lives with his mother”. The music, sound effects and game play are all excellent and addictive on Flick Bowling.

My only gripe with Flick Bowling is that the sound effects are by default turned off — it took me a while to understand that my iPhone wasn’t the culprit. And, although you can play against another person (by taking turns holding the phone) — it would be nice if there was a multiplayer mode. Still, all in all, Flick Bowling is another solid offering by FreeVerse.
