GL Golf does not use the accelerometer like iGolf (and the Wii) does. And it is not free. At $7.99 (a new favorite price point among app developers) its for hard core golf gaming fanatics only. But it doesn’t disappoint.
GL Golf offers a selection of full 18 hole simulated courses (unlike iGolf which only offers a number of individual holes), including Old St Andrews. Each course is accurately modeled in 3 dimensions, making the approach shots, in particular, quite challenging / frustrating. As a player you can control loft, draw, and backspin, the season, the time of day and the course difficulty level. A welcome “mulligan” button lets you cheat, and take the shot again.
As much as we like the Wii style “swing with the iphone” idea, GL Golf is more the app that you will keep playing once the novelty wears off.

We did a review of iGolf and didn’t really think it was up to par so to speak. Looking forward to trying this one out.
