Hunt for the iPhone App's Hidden Easter Eggs to Win an iPod touch

star walk contestWhoever said that hunting Easter Eggs is just for kids hasn't heard of the Vito Technology's new contest. The iPhone app developers have hidden 9 virtual Easter Eggs in the sky of their app Star Walk.

Here's how to play: First download Star Walk and install it on your iPhone or iPod touch. If you already own Star Walk, then be sure you're using the most up-to-date version. Then start hunting!

The publisher is kick starting the contest with this tip: "It gets up when it's dark." They promise to publish additional clues and updates on their website, www.vitotechnology.com, as the contest moves forward.

The eggs are hidden throughout the starmap somewhere between the stars and the planets. When you've found the Easter Eggs hidden in the app, send an email to alex@vitotechnology.com explaining:

  • how many eggs you found (there should be 9)
  • what you found and where you found
  • explain why you think the eggs were placed in that location
  • include your contact details — name, address, email, phone number

The first 3 people to find all nine eggs will be eligible to win an iPod touch. Additional prizes will be announced later in the contest, but may include iTunes gift certificate or Apple Store gift cards.

I found 2, who can exchange some info? ...and we will find them all?

  • William

Jenny, I'm having a little trouble with the first two. I'm pretty sure I'm in the right places, but not quite sure what I'm supposed to look for. If you can give any detail as to what exactly I should be seeing, then that would be of great help. Once I know what I'm looking for, I'm sure I'll be able to find more, and then we can trade information. =)

  • Jenny

well what i can tell you is that they put some pretty 'obvious' country symbols of the two most famous countries that reached the moon......and I also think that all the others are related to similar discoveries but I am not very well informed about them...maybe you are?
In the mean time I found a third one...it is very 'Apple' related and it is not on the moon

  • William

Jenny, thanks for clearing that up for me. I know what to actually look for now! Do you have an email we can communicate through? If I find any more, I can send you information.

  • Jenny

William, I am looking into various sources and now will be on facebook to see what they post on the starwalk page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=146601915712
otherwise you can find me on newonlyjenny@hotmail.com

  • William

Jenny, the email isn't working for me. Anyway, I have a few questions regarding topics to research for possible egg locations. I've been doing my own research on possible egg locations and so far no luck. If you have any ideas as to topics or achievements that I can research, I'd be glad to see if there lies any egg secrets there. If there's supposed to be a different country flag on each location, I'm not sure I can find that many, as I don't know many countries that have done anything in space.

  • Jenny

well what i found so far is related to man landings on the moon..so depending on the date and the time the flags was put on the moon you will be able to see them. So you have to use the traveling in time functions and moon phases. I have so far found an American and a Russian flag I don't know if they there will be the same flags also in different moon locations and time I haven't tried yet....i don't know. I know though that someone else has found the american flag as it is shown on facebook star walk page group....also have you found the apple? That is pretty simple, you just need to go close to Ursa Minor and u will spot it....will u write the guys at Vito to claim a price?

  • William

Jenny, thanks for making that much clearer, but I already found those with the hints you gave me earlier. =) What I was merely asking was possible ideas for eggs 4-9. Thanks for your help so far though! I have found that if you look around other dates on the moon, there are times when there are both flags present, or one or the other phase in and out at different periods of time. I'm not sure if this is another egg, or merely just a mistake on their part. Either way, I took pictures of each and will probably send them in once I find all 9 eggs. I'll definitely claim and prize that I can get though.

  • Jenny

I think that we both got it now...and it is only a question of patience in finding out the different dates of the American expedition on the moon (various Apollo) and the Russian one (Luna) I think it is fine when there are both flags showing, they were both on the moon...so..it kind of makes sense...have fun and let me know how it goes!

  • William

Hey Jenny. You're right! It was really a matter of patience! If you just take the time to look at each point in time, you'll find valuable information on important dates and discoveries on the moon!
