Just like they said it would, this morning brings the much-anticipated version 2.2 update for iPhone. (iPod touch and iTunes also received their own set of updates.) There has been lots of speculation about what this new update would bring.
Now we, know for sure. This update, for iPhone and iPhone 3G, contains many bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
Enhancements to maps
- Google street view
- public transit and walking directions
- display address of dropped pins
- share location via email
Enhancements to mail
- resolved isolated issues with scheduling fetching of email
- improved formatting of wide html email
Improved stability and performance of Safari
Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network)
Decrease in call set-up features and call drops
Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages
Pressing the Home button from any Home screen takes you to the first Home Screen
Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in keyboard settings
To access the update plug your phone in to sync with your computer. You should be automatically prompted to update. If you are not prompted to update, Version 2.2 is also available by selecting your iPhone or iPhone 3G from the Devices list in iTunes version 8.0.2, and hitting the Check for Update/Update button.
