Kitten Cannon (Original) Kitty Catapulting

kitten-cannon-iphoneKitten Cannon (Original) is the same cat-launching game as the web version, but is brought to iPhone by Hands-On Mobile. Not to be confused with Kitty Kannon, a similar “copy cat” of the original web game, Kitten Cannon is every bit as addicting as it is online. You get one cartoon kitten, one cannon, and then hope for the best – score that is. The kitten has no hope.

Kitten Cannon is one of those superbly simple games that lets you kill time quickly (and repeatedly maim a kitty). I don’t suppose enjoying this game would be an early indicator of potential serial killers, but it is definitely a bit on the gory side.

To play, you needn’t do anything but position the angle of your cannon and then time your launch when the power meter is full. With luck, the kitten will hit only ground explosives, rockets, and trampolines, all of which propel him farther. The game ends when kitty runs out of luck and lands on the sharp spiky things or is devoured by the venus-cat trap.

One thing you’ll surely notice about Kitten Cannon is the warp speed side-scrolling action as the kitty is propelled through the air. It literally takes less than one minute to play — unless your cat is super lucky. While I can’t imagine what sort of twisted individuals came up with the original concept in the first place, it’s apparent that Kitten Cannon has been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people and it’s not getting such bad ratings in the iTunes Store either. Personally, I wince every time my own kitty reaches his impending doom, but even though I like kittens – kind of – I still find myself tapping the continue button.

If you happen to be competitive about kitten launching, then you can share your high scores by submitting them to the online leaderboard.

When it comes to tap-and-launch games, I’ve found some are clever and original and others are not, but you know exactly what you’re getting. Gory as it may be, Kitten Cannon will deliver the same game you’ve become accustomed to wasting hours of your life playing online, except now you can take it with you everywhere.
