Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue is an educational game that will help children learn how to spell. The app is an educational tool that is masked as a fun and entertaining game, which will provide children with endless fun, as well as reinforce their recognition of letters and words.

Marvin and Mel Monkey are two little monkeys that go on an adventure to rescue letters which were stolen from the zoo. In each level of Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue, you have to collect letters falling from a tree.  Every level is 60 seconds long and will assign you a word, such as fish, that you have to collect letters for.  The object of the level is to collect as many letters and bananas, which provide bonus points, as possible without getting hit by coconuts.

Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue has five different game play locations to choose from, and each has five different levels. The game can take place in Madagascar, Hawaii, The Arctic,Thailand and a ‘you decide’ mystery world that users are currently voting for.

Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue can be downloaded on all iOS devices but works best on the iPad. You might not get the most out of the app on a smaller device because the game requires you to slide a monkey across the screen gathering letters and bananas while avoiding coconuts and you will need all the room you can get to accomplish that goal.

The game is educational and a lot of fun, but Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue is definitely an app for older children who are learning how to read and are already familiar with the swiping motion of an iOS device. One issue I had with the app was game play. It is difficult to control the monkeys and many times when I would swipe in a certain direction the monkey would move the opposite way.

The Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue app still has some bugs that need to be fixed before it can become a truly great educational game. But it still has educational value, even for younger children. I used Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue with my 16 month old daughter, who is still a few years from being able to read, and I would help her move the monkey from side to side and call out the letters that where falling from the tree.

Overall Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue is a fun and educational game that children will enjoy. You may have issues controlling the monkey, which at times can hinder the game play, but Marvin and Mel Monkey: Word Rescue has a lot of value as and educational tool.
