"I don't know. You pick."
"I don't know either. You pick."
"I honestly don't care; it's up to you."
Ever had a conversation like that? Of course you have. Everyone has! Everyone has also found himself or herself, at some point, in a Mexican standoff with friends or family because everyone wants to pick the movie, or because nobody wants to take the dog for a walk. Luckily, Peacemaker by Maverick Digital Works is prepared to step in and provide you with an impartial decider.
Peacemaker consists of a Wheel of Fortune-style wheel in which users can input up to 8 custom options onto sections of the wheel. Once all the options are in place, you can simply spin the wheel with your finger and, to muddle a metaphor, let the chips fall where they may.
The graphics and user interface for Peacemaker are quite elegant. For an app that is, all things considered, kind of silly, it's a pleasant surprise to see how much care obviously went into the design. The animation is really nice — as the spin of the wheel begins to slow, we smoothly zoom in to see where the pointer will land, and once the wheel stops, the choice pops up with a dramatic swell of music. It's cute, pretty much.
In Peacemaker there's also the option to add a little grease to the wheel, in case you want to make it spin longer. Which is probably not strictly necessary, but hey, why not? I mean, realistically, is Peacemaker an app you must have? One that you'll find yourself wondering how you ever survived without it? Well, no; probably not. But on the other hand, if it saves you from a night of "you pick" versus "no, you pick," it might just be worth it.
