PhoneFramer allows you to add colorful frames to your iPhone photos. It is an effortless app to use, and adds creative decorations to photos, which is especially festive around holidays. Because PhoneFramer processes your photo frame on the web, the app requires EDGE, 3G or Wi-Fi.
Framing your photos with PhoneFramer is an easy two-step process. You pick a photo from your album, and then you select your border. Some users have complained that the app is too slow, but beginning to end takes under 45 seconds if you know what photo you plan to use and you are already familiar with the frames. The makers of the app, New Age Creations, say they provide hundreds of frames. I didn’t take the time to count them myself, but there certainly seem to be a boatload from which to choose.
Most of the PhoneFramer borders are cartoonish and colorful, with lots of groovy flowers, swirls and hearts. Many of the frames are available with the same pattern but in different colors, which is stylish for color coordinating the frames with your photos, but can also make you feel like you have less options than you first thought. There are just a few less flashy wooden and metallic borders. For special occasions such as birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, get well wishes and holidays, you will find an impressive selection.
You could spend a lot of time playing around with PhoneFramer if you so desired. No back button exists if you want to change photos in the middle of the process, only if you want to change frames. There is no “choose new photo” option until you have completed the framing process. Once you have saved your newly framed picture to your photo album, you have to go back to the beginning and start over with uploading if you want to select a different frame, even if you want to use the same photo. To switch to a different photo without picking a frame, you have to relaunch PhoneFramer. I found this a tad annoying. Hopefully it will be fixed in future versions.
Since Valentine’s Day is next week, I took a picture of myself and emailed it to my sweetie in a Valentine frame. The resulting photo had a decent resolution, and made an entertaining wallpaper for her iPhone. PhoneFramer’s price is reasonable for what you get, and you can use it over and over again for special occasions, holidays, or just for fun.
