Speech Cloud is a free app by Massachusets based Adela Voice that allows you to quickly dial a number simply by speaking into the iPhone microphone, and saying (for example): “Call Clark Landry”.
In preliminary tests, the app recognized 8 out of 10 names from my contact list. Note that you need to say both the first and last name. The system then returns a list of the numbers for the target person (home, business, mobile); you choose one and the call is placed.
I am pretty sure that the results will vary from person to person; but if you are like me (and speak english in the same way i do), the app is a keeper.

The serious problem with speechcloud is it takes at least 8 seconds (on Wi-Fi) just to recognize a contact. It will take longer on 3g or edge. So even if it is 100% accurate it is still completely worthless and defeats the purpose of voice dialing. I have tried another voice dialer on the app store called “voicethis” and it is 10 times better. It has all the same functionality as speechcloud but it only takes 1 second to voice dial no matter what connection you are on.

There’s a better voice Dailer now. it’s called Fonix iSpeak. It’s kind of pricey but it works very well; at least for me!

If you want a good free voice dialer, Say Who is the way to go. It’s pretty fast, and very accurate. It also recognizes all kinds of phrases, names and numbers, so you never have to take your eyes off the road if you are driving.
