Blast Aliens With Sentry Alpha
After seeing so many mediocre games and apps comes through the App Store, it is sometimes easy to lose faith that the iPhone/iPod touch can truly be a legitimate gaming platform.
Then, a game like Sentry Alpha comes along and restores my faith.
Gun Down Elves with Shotgun Santa
There is nothing to get you into the Christmas spirit quite like a shotgun-wielding Santa gunning down some zombie elves. That is what you get in Shotgun Santa, a clever game that has promise but ultimately lacks depth.
SPACE DEADBEEF Beats Out Paid Apps to Take Top Prize
Remember the days of Space Invaders at your local arcade when you were younger. SPACE DEADBEEF brings back those days on your iPhone with a game very similar to that of space invaders. The game has you turn the iPhone on it's side and fire away at the enemies as you move from left to right.
Iron Man Takes Flying Shooter Games to a New Level
Iron Man, the movie, generated close to $600,00 at the box office and on DVD and like the super hero himself, the franchise continues to soar. Robert Downey, Jr. is set to reprise the role in Iron Man 2 in 2010 and in The Avengers in 2011.
Cube Delivers on First-Person Shooter Gameplay
Cube is a solid effort at a first-person shooter for the iPhone. There is a high learning-curve in gaining mastery of the controls, which are a bit awkward. Maneuvering the game's menus, maps, and other features also is counter-intuitive. But underneath some of the quirkiness lies a great game that, with patience, you may learn to enjoy.
Fight the Undead with Zombie Mansion
First person shooters are starting to make their way to the App Store. One excellent option is Zombie Mansion. The game has its flaws, but it is a good effort at bringing some of the time-honored tradition of blasting zombies to your iPhone or iPod Touch. The game begins by placing you trapped inside, go figure, a mansion. Fortunately you are armed with some sort of magic stick that fires energy balls at the undead.
Save the Planet from Dullness with BurnBall
BurnBall is an addicting game with a fairly simple concept that is executed well while making use of the accelerometer. The premise is that the evil Dr. Grey aims to turn the entire planet, you guessed it, gray (perhaps an understudy of the grey-loving Jasper John). You are Roy, whose mission is to stop him.
Punch-O-Meter is a Knock-out App — just hold on tight
If you have always wondered whether you have the punching power to test your skills in Mixed Martial Arts; or perhaps take out that guy who bullied you in fifth grade, then Punch-O-Meter is the app for you. It acts as a power meter for your right or left jab. Provided you don't mind having your iPhone in hand as you punch away.
The Dark Knight Nowhere Near Success of Movie
The Dark Knight: Batmobile Game is the latest marketing tool to get you excited about the hit movie. It is not as cool as the flick, but it should give you a few rounds of fun before it becomes a bit repetitive. In the game you control the Batmobile in a race through the streets of Gotham. The graphics are pretty sweet, especially the detail on the Batmobile.
Put a Sonic Boom in Your Palm
The Sonic Boom iPhone App really does put the power in your hands. Just one swift swipe of the finger and you’ve struck a match destined for only one thing: the stick of dynamite waiting in the center of your screen. You can tease it by whirling a finger of fire around the entire stick of dynamite but once you touch the fuse of the bomb, you just sit back and watch the show.
Fighter Pilot a Confused Flight
The iPhone's accelerometer is perfectly suited for games where you hold it horizontally and "steer" it back and forth to control a vehicle. It has worked well in Crash Bandicoot and other popular games.
Unfortunately, not so in Fighter Pilot - Dogfight Battle - Jet Aircraft, (yes, that is what they list it as in the App Store. We'll call it Fighter Pilot for short) a new game from the unfortunately-named dumbgames.net.
Nanosaur 2 - Pangea Continues to Raise the Bar
Pangea Software brings yet another one of their great games to the iPhone. Nanosaur 2 fits right into the high-quality game apps, like Billy Frontier or Cro Mag Rally, that the Austin-based developer has released on the platform so far. With outstanding graphics and great action this third person shooter game is definitely worth the $3.99 price tag.
Otto Matic - Pangea Continues to Bring Great Games to iPhone
According to a post on the Touch Arcade Forum, renowned game developer Pangea Software is working on the iPhone release of their 3-D adventure game Otto Matic. Based on their PC game, Otto Matic is set in the 1950s with a robot on a mission to save the earth from evil outer-space attacks from Planet X.
Kroll takes iPhone Graphics to Another Level
Kroll, created by Spanish game developer Digital Legends Entertainment brings a game full of myth and magic to the iPhone. Kroll is an action-packed arcade game set in an ancient world in which the player has to accumulate magic by killing enemies.
Star Wars - The Force Is Strong With This One
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was released recently on a variety of gaming platforms to middling reviews. As I haven't played the console versions yet I can't speak to the quality of those games; I can say that the iPhone version is an impressive and enjoyable game that is a must-download for any mobile gaming fan.
