Brainy Puzzles: CryptArithm Will Strain Your Brain
Aspiring cryptographers and codebreakers, have I got an app for you! Brainy Puzzles: CryptArithm (the first in a series of "solid, serious and challenging" puzzle games created by Gamecentric) offers over 500 math-based logic puzzles that are sure to get the wheels turning and the brain cells bubbling.
Gemmed! Lite Sparkles in the Match-Three Genre
Gemmed! Lite by Wasted Pixel is an iPhone app that caught me by surprise. When I first got this app, I wasn’t expecting much. I previously played similar match-three games on other phones. I played those games to death and frankly became burned out with these types of puzzle games. As soon as I started Gemmed! Lite I immediately perked up.
Blocked is a Hard, but not Impossible, Puzzle
Blocked is currently the number 1 puzzle game in the App Store. If you’re curious to see how it made its way to the top you’ll be happy to know it’s everything it claims to be. Blocked is an easy to use puzzle game that has you dragging and sliding blocks in every direction across the screen. While this sounds easy enough to do, you’ll hit a few road blocks before you master this game.
FingerMingle Shows Promise, but Not Cool Enough to Break the Ice Yet
I remember when dating used to be simple. Considering that I’m a guy, it was my job to deliver a good time while being a perfect gentleman. That part was easy enough as several articles and books have been written for guys that are clueless in matters of love and relationships.
Give Your Brain a Workout with iTrio Puzzle Matching
From time to time the App Store churns out a game that relies more on brainpower and less on quick and mindless tapping and swiping. One of those games is iTrio.
A spinoff of the various versions of Trio card games, iTrio requires you to find a matching group of three cards hidden amongst a set of 18.
Jabeh: Find the Hidden Stones in This Logic Puzzle
Jabeh, an interesting logic puzzle app, is a mixture of Sudoku and Minesweeper. Your goal in Jabeh is to find the 12 hidden stones on each puzzle board.
The arrows on the board are to help point you in the right direction of the hidden stones.
Meltdown Pipe-building Game has Gorgeous Graphics
There seems to be an infinite amount of puzzle games that float through the App Store. And the bar is constantly rising as more of them flow into our hot little hands. Meltdown is an action puzzle game where the goal is to build a network of pipes to get the “nuclear waste” out of the city. Guide the toxic waste through all of the detox stations to complete a level. Cross shaped detox stations must be completely filled.
Ingot is a Puzzler That May be too Hard for Some Players
Ingot is a puzzle game where the goal is to destroy the green blocks on the screen and avoid destroying the black blocks. You must set off the other eight block types in your quest to complete the level and get the highest score.
CubicMan Deluxe Building App Shines in All Areas but One
After playing TeemSoft's CubicMan Deluxe for a while, I have a new appreciation for those guys who built Stonehenge.
The aim of CubicMan Deluxe is to roll a rectangular-shaped, six-sided, block around a platform of tiles until you're able to stand it upright on its destination.
Totomi Tough to Grasp, But Stacks up Well Enough
Award-winning mobile game developer, Rovio, entered into the iPhone/iPod Touch arena with the release of Totomi, a puzzle-stacking game with charm.
Totomi is a more in-depth gaming app than many, complete with a story mode and arcade mode, and stands on the same solid premise most good puzzle games have.
Bubbles in this Shoot & Pop Game are Frozen in Time
Frozen Bubble, from EGB, is a port of the free version of the popular Frozen Bubble game for the Mac and Linux platforms. It's the classic shoot and pop game, along the same lines as Snood, Puzzle Bobble and Bubble Town, which I reviewed recently.
Bubble Town: Shoot and Pop Puzzle Game Lacks Action
I generally like bubble puzzle shooting games like Snood, so I was looking forward to playing I-play's Bubble Town. What I came away with was the thought that the developer tried to shove a game into a platform that it is ill suited for.
Chop Sushi: Cooking Up Some Raw Fun in Match-Three Genre
Good news for the less-adventurous eaters out there: you don't have to like actual sushi to enjoy Chop Sushi, the puzzle game by THQ.
Chop Sushi has a few different modes, but the heart of the application is a simple switch-and-match game, similar to Bejeweled.
Newtonica2: Plucky Puzzle Game Requires Strategy
Of all the games that I've downloaded for my iPhone, Newtonica2 by Fieldsystem Inc is quite possibly the nicest. Or the most aesthetically pleasing, at any rate. The graphics are fairly simple, but they look terrific.
Animalz Gets Applauze for Solid Puzzle Game
Animalz - Though collapse-style puzzle games like this one are a dime a dozen, there are a few classics that might stand out in your mind. PurpleZoo Productions’ Animalz may not be an instant classic, but it stands a good chance of being a favorite app for those who love this type of puzzle game.
