On textfree for iphone how come it doesn't make a noise when you get a text message? Sometimes it does make a noise and other times it does not. Is there something that I have to change in the settings or is it always like this?

Hey!

You should have a username with textfree. Your buddies can text that username@textfree.us to text you directly without you having to text them first. Same can be done with a gmail account etc.

For instance, I use my textfree account to text friends with basic texts and my gmail account to send/recieve multimedia texts.

I haven't needed to test it out, but thats the premise. Jocelyn has said it a couple times in this thread. numbers 53 and 55 if you would like more info.

Hope this helps!

I haven't seen any way to do this. Either I text them first, or I reply to their initial SMS using Textfree. I figured at $.20 per text, I can absorb up to about 25 as the break even point before exceeding the cost of AT&T's cheapest text plan: $5 for 200. So far, the most SMS I've received in a month has been 5 or 6. I can take paying an extra buck for one month instead of $5 every month. Even my wife dropped her $5 plan.

YMMV.

Hi I just had one question. Is it possible for someone to text you from their phone? If so, is there a number you give to them so they can text you. Or, do you always have to text THEM first, so they can reply? THANKS!!!

Niles,

Anyone with a a cell phone that can recieve texts will be able to recieve messages sent from TextFree.

Think of it like sending emails, you can send to any email address, but have to have an email address to send it from. In this case your TextFree account is your email address, and their phone number are theirs.

Problem :(,

Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure why they woudn't be able to respond to your texts. I suggest contacting their support department at support-tf@pinger.com. That will probably get you quicker assistance.

Hope this helps!

Jocelyn I hope you're still reading this site!! I'm having problems, when I send to my friends who use blackberries, they get my texts (although sometimes without my name), but they are unable to reply! I have to go through a complicated procedure where they have to e-mail myname@textfree.us and then save that as my texting address, which is very annoying. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!

I would like to say thank you and your team for creating such a useful app.

I have been scoping out the Iphone and Itouch for some time to replace my VOIP landline. Didn't want to pay the large amounts of money for the iphone so the only choice was the Itouch. Up until a couple months ago there wasn't a built in microphone, then they enabled the bluetooth.

Finally broke down and got a Itouch. First thing I did was to search for a way to send text messages to accompany Fring. Tried out Aim, but didn't like the interface or the combination with Fring. Then I came across your App. Tried a couple of texts with the lite and quickly upgraded to the unlimited. Im proud to be a user and more than willing to spend 6 dollars a year to support your team. One giant leap to bridge the gap between voip and cell phones.

I only have one question. Since the Textfree-Unlimited user is using a mail server (if i understand that correctly), then would you have the ability to send and recieve sms messages with international numbers, without either party incurring anything other than regular local charges? That is the Textfree-Unlimited being free and the cellphone charges based off whatever their plan is.

I'd also love a breakdown of the actual process used, just curiosity sake. Don't want any trade secrets and dont really expect anything, but doesn't hurt to ask! Besides who knows enable people to throw some better ideas at you! = P

Thanks again!

I just got a replacement iPhone. However, after restoring my APPS, I tried to use the Textfree Lite program (which I had installed prior to turning in my previous iPhone).

However, I cannot get beyond the "Select your permanet Texfree address"

After typing in ryhrpt, the only button I can press is "CHECK AVAILABILITY."

However, after pressing that button, I get the message: "Sorry we can't connect to the Textfree servers."

How do I re-establish my account?

Dear text free application makers,

I figures out how to get my signature on my ipod but it wont work when i try to do it for text free it would be good if text free made an update for the application so that the signature i want will show up after i send a text. If you do this that would be great !

Your application is genius,

sincerely,
