Vocalerts for iPhoneI must admit, I really do not use many productivity apps on my iOS devices. I am in the dark ages when it comes to productivity and still use a paper calendar and have an actual alarm clock. So I was excited when I had the opportunity to try out Vocalerts, a custom alarm app by the developers at Phoenix Labs Pty Ltd.

Vocalerts is an app that allows its users to create custom alarms and messages. Users can either record a message or choose a song from their music libraries to use as an alarm.

The Vocalerts app is easy to use and allows you to set up a custom alarm with ease. I recorded a few messages and tried them out to see how Vocalerts worked.

I recorded myself saying “Wake up, time for work”, and the alert popped up at the scheduled time. I also set an alert and started to play Zombie HWY just to see if the alert would still work. And as expected it did, the alert came on and played my message without interrupting the game.

Vocalerts also allows you to choose any song from your music library to play in an alert. I made a few messages with different songs and they all worked like a charm.

I noticed a few small issues with Vocalerts that I would love to see changed during their next update. The first is that you cannot really use the recorded messages as an actual alarm because they do not repeat. The alert will simply play your message and then go away.  I would love to see a repeat option for the alerts just incase I was asleep or away from my phone.

The second minor issue I noticed with Vocalerts was, when I made an alert with a song from my music library it only played around 20 seconds of the song. Again, I would like the alerts to be just a little bit longer.

Overall I enjoyed the Vocalerts app and had a lot of fun recording message and alerts for myself. I have only been using the app for a few days but it already saved me a trip to the supermarket. I was in line to pay at the grocery store when an alert popped up reminding me to buy milk. I had set the alert earlier in the day, not thinking I would need it, but just to try it out. Vocalerts saved my life, because my wife would have killed me if I got home without the milk. The app is fun and easy to use, and I would definitely recommend it.
