For $9.99, XPlane offers a realistic flight simulator experience for the iPhone. Released last week, and developed in only a month, the app takes full advantage of the accelerometer of the iPhone to create a truly accurate flying experience. As a pilot with 400+ hours, its a pleasure piloting the simulated Cessna 172 around what looks to be Reno Nevada.

Obviously, flight simulators can get arbitrarily complex. Compared with Microsoft Flight Simulator, XPlane is basic. No ILS landings, radio communications, other planes etc.. Just solo flying, in different meteorological conditions and in different planes. But still, highly impressive at this point in the iPhone app development curve, even if there is somewhat of a low repeat gaming value…
