Hell’s Kitchen – Ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you there is no denying I’m an admitted Gordon Ramsey fan. I just can’t get enough of watching him get in peoples faces all for the greater good of the perfect dining experience. I watch his shows Kitchen Nightmares, The F Word and of course Hell’s Kitchen. When the Hell’s Kitchen iPhone app by Ludia was released, it was a no brainer for me. I’d already played the Hell’s Kitchen game on my computer so being able to play it anytime, anywhere on my iPhone was the entree I needed.
The Hell’s Kitchen app is just plain fun with a little stress thrown in for good measure. There are two modes to play, Career and Arcade. With Career mode you are challenged to run Hell’s Kitchen. You are the maitre ‘d, waiter, and chef. In Arcade mode you spend your time in the kitchen perfecting your meal preparation skills.
Playing the Arcade mode really helps your overall game play, as you’ll become more proficient in the kitchen. But, just as I love to golf but hate going to the range, I generally don’t play this mode. My enjoyment comes out on the course or should I say the restaurant floor.
You start play in the Career mode by greeting the customers at the podium. Once you seat them you are soon prompted to take their order. The order is then sent to the kitchen and you’ll leave the dining area and enter the kitchen to prepare their order. This is when Hell’s Kitchen starts to heat up. In the kitchen you are required to put food on the stove in a specific order while watching timers. Your goal is for both meals to finish at the same time. Afterwards you’ll take the order back out to your customers. Next you wait for your prompt from the customers to return to their table and clear off the table.
Sounds simple but as you progress you have more and more customers to deal with and the pace increases. If that’s not enough to keep you busy you’re constantly watching flames that become more prominent as you lag. And, of course, if you are messing up Chef Ramsey will ridicule you.
While I really like the Hell’s Kitchen app, it’s not without it’s faults. The instructions for the game are essentially non-existent. What instructions you do get are almost unreadable because the fonts are really small. Hopefully they will address those issues in the next update.
Hell’s Kitchen turns the heat up for loads of fun. Even if you’re not a fan of the show, you’ll find plenty of enjoyment with this app.
Fans of this type of time-management game will also get fired up over Diner Dash or Chocolate Shop Frenzy.
