Games for iPhone and iPad

By far the most popular category in the App Store, there is a never-ending parade of great games available for iOS devices. For a list of our favorites, check out AppCraver’s Editor Picks of the Best Games for iPhone and iPad, or read on for news and reviews of the newest game releases for iOS.

Coins N Rainbows - Coin Sliding Fun

Coins N Rainbows was an original idea that involves the user having a coin and sliding it along the board to land on rainbows. The user would take his or her iPhone and slide it forward which sends the coin along the board and depending on where it lands on the rainbows, determines how many points the user gets.

Even Barbarians Would Like this Maze Game

Even Attila the Hun would enjoy playing Hudson Entertainment's Slyder Adventures, that's how much fun it is. It's a classic maze game but with its facile game play, crisp, brightly colored graphics and infectious sound track, it's hard to put down.

Quantum Lights is a Puzzle Without a Clue

Jeremy Smith's Quantum Lights is one of those puzzles that you either get, or you don't. I get it, but the game fails to captivate my attention in the same way as Rubik's Cube, which this game reminds me of a bit.

IncinviBall Could Use Stronger Game Play

One of the fun things about playing Croquet or Bocce is getting to smash another player's ball to kingdom come. When I first laid eyes on Proton Studio's InvinciBall I thought it might be just as fun in the smash department as one of those two games.

Buy Peekaboo Barn on the App Store

Peekaboo Barn Offers Some Lively Livestock

Night & Day Studios, Inc., the company that in the last few months has brought you such clever apps as Audience Pro, Rimshot Pro and Big Fat Lies Trivia Game, deserves a big-barn round of applause for its recent release of the children's educational game called Peekaboo Barn.

Tunnel is an Old Twist on an Old Graphing Calculator Game

You will not find simpler game play or a more graphically rudimentary app in the App Store than Orial Ferrer Mesia's Tunnel. All you have to do is look at the accompanying picture to see that.

Buy i Love Katamari on the App Store

I Love Katamari — More to Like than to Love

I Love Katamari is the newest iteration of a game that went through a major overhaul from the original version. The new app has good responsiveness and some solid features, but a few hiccups and some odd gameplay still keep it from being a must-have for iPhone/iPod touch gamers.

Marriage for Speed Fiend and Lady Luck in the Cards

Speed Fiend, from Scatter Circuit, is a mashup of Soltaire, War and Fish, salted with a dash of mishigas. The object of Speed Fiend is to discard your cards as fast as you can. Between you and your rival — in this instance, the iPhone's electronic brain — are two discard piles.

Buy Zoom Zoom on the App Store

Save Your Breath for Zoom Zoom

Zoom Zoom is one of the stranger offerings to come from the App Store. You will probably either love it or hate it. Those who left comments on the DAVA Consulting app's iTunes page either lauded it for its ingenuity or wondered why time was wasted on its development. The reason? You do not control the game with the touch screen or accelerometer — but with your mouth.

Buy Crazy Snowboard on the App Store

Crazy Snowboard Now Updated for iPhone and iPad

Crazy Snowboard 2.0 is an app with multiple personalities. On the one hand it is one of the better designed games around for the iPhone, iPod touch and now the iPad, too. Its weakness is the sometimes quirky gameplay that keeps it from being a truly great offering.

Buy Word Warp on the App Store

Word Warp is Best Word Game for iPhone

Word Warp! I love this game and everything about it. This is probably the one iPhone app that I have used everyday since I have downloaded it. The object of the game is exactly like that of Text Twist if you are familiar with it.

Buy LED Football 2 on the App Store

LED Football 2 Offers Retro Gridiron Action

If you grew up in an era when LED games were cutting edge technology, then LED Football 2 may hold some nostalgia for you. Like its predecessors, LED Football and LED Basketball, it is a fairly accurate representation of the handheld LED sports game that were among the first handheld entertainment devices.

Fleck Tells a Magic Story

Fleck is a board game app for the iPhone and I have yet to see anything similar. The object of the game is to get the little guy in the green shirt, also known  as Fleck, to the cove. You have to do this without coming into contact with the acid raindrops or the toadstool which will poison him and ultimately end the game.

Chocolate Shop Frenzy is Pretty Sweet

Emma, the heroine of Chocolate Shop Frenzy, quits her marketing job, gets a small business loan, buys a chocolate shop and goes into business. Her goal is to employ her time-management skills to successfully run the shop for a year — long enough to pay back her loan.

Buy Killer Pool on the App Store

Killer Pool a Challenging, Fun App

The bright, touch-sensitive screen of the iPhone and iPod Touch almost calls out to be filled with a pool table (well, maybe just to me). Perhaps this is why Killer Pool is the latest in a string of pool games that have appeared in the App Store. There is certainly many to choose from — with Midnight Pool being one of the best. Killer Pool bests that app in many respects, yet still has some room to grow.
