Games for iPhone and iPad

Productivity is dandy, but the real reason we love iPhone apps is the selection of games. Whether you prefer to stick to the classics — Snake has been revived for the iPhone, along with versions of PacMan and Tetris — or want to try something completely new like Crash Bandicoot or Chimps Ahoy, we have hundreds of entertaining ways to lose track of time. There are even multiplayer games for iPhone and iPod Touch — we suggest Fingertips Sports Air Hockey or 300Bowl.

Minesweeper Classic Just Like the Original

Minesweeper Classic – For those of us who toiled away for hours in a cubicle at our Windows NT workstations, Minesweeper was one of the few solaces  in the drudgery of office life. Minesweeper still lives on in the current release of Windows 7. Now the addicting fun of Minesweeper Classic is available on your [...]

Just for Kicks, Urban Kick Academy Proves a Pleasant Little Game

When the developers at 1BigApp contacted us about Urban Kick Academy, they claimed to have had trouble getting site reviews of their debut app for iPhone and iPod touch. Luckily, we’re pretty much game for anything around here and though I initially groaned at this endeavor thinking it would be some kind of martial arts [...]

Buka, It’s Great!

Hexage’s Buka is great, just like “All your base belong to us” was once great. Too great for me, though, but that’s just great. Buka is a glowing blue planet she-thing that you must maneuver past Mr. Sunshine, Mr. Sleepy, Red Ones and other assorted Baddies Hey, don’t look at me. That’s what they’re called. [...]

Popper! is Clever Twist’s Twist on Traditional Brick Breakers

Clever Twists’s Popper!is a bit of a unique “popping” game that correlates with other brick-breaking games as well as match-to-pop games, though it defies the match-three standard of most. Popper features several different formations made up of various colored capsules and balls, which can be eliminated from their arrangement by hitting one or more with a [...]

Jumping Panda’s Comparison to Super Mario Bros. is a Stretch

Jumping Panda – I can’t speak for my colleagues, but as a review writer I often come across applications or products that fall into a sort of gray area — it might be something with possible but unmet potential or hidden value that’s difficult to gauge.  But our job is to state the facts, be [...]

Super Marble Roll is a Gleaming Orb

Super Marble Roll, from iScape Games Ltd., is the typical flop, plop, drop and roll platform app. Think of it like Labyrinth, developed by Carl Loodberg of Codify AB, that AppCraver reviewed back in December or Mobigame’s Edge, which we reviewed in January. Tilt your iPhone or iPod touch this way and that to roll the [...]

Quick Turn: Can You Catch a Falling Star?

Look, a falling star!  Don’t get distracted; you need to start rotating your iPhone. Quick Turn from Portable Zoo is an action game that requires good reflexes, and as it speeds up, quick moves. Like many iPhone games, Quick Turn is based on a simple concept but it is surprisingly challenging. As the star falls across [...]

iDroidsMania is Artificial but Clever

iDroidsMania is Artificial Life’s first original game for the iPhone and iPod touch platforms and it’s as eye-fetching as a steaming stack of buttery pancakes smothered in genuine maple syrup. iDroidsMania is a beautifully rendered side scroller in which you assume the role of HAXX, a robotic oil-field farmer from iDroidAbama (evidently someplace in iDroidOpia). [...]

Need For Speed Arrives on the iPhone in Style!

Need for Speed: Undercover – For nearly 15 years and several generations of gaming hardware, the Need for Speed franchise has endured as a beloved arcade racing franchise for all gamers. Granted it has come in several different themes over the years (e.g. exotic cars, rally racing, street racing, police pursuits, etc.), the quality of [...]

1, 2, 3, Get Ready – Robot Fight!

Remember the red and blue boxing robot toys that used to be so popular? Robot Fight! by Sean Rogers is a simplistic app for iPhone and iPod touch that pretty much emulates that boxing toy. Admittedly, I didn’t do a great deal of research before I downloaded Robot Fight! to my touch and when I [...]
